Developing a web site is not an easy task. In fact, it can be downright scary!! Especially when you have no idea what goes into a site…how it is built? How do I hire a web designer? What do I need to know? How much will it cost me? Why is your secretary dressed like Lady Gaga? Hey, it’s that time again…when I am going to ramble on about website babble that designers, programmers and any computer geeks would know like the back of their hand. What am I talking about? I am talking about questions that are the most assumed and overlooked. For example, "Do you have a Domain Name?" and "Do you have Hosting?"

Welcome to the first issue of The Den. In this issue I want to take a moment to talk about a little known and powerful option to make a good web site a great one. What am I talking about? Well, it’s called a CMS, or in simple terms, a Content Management System. What is a content management system? It is a way of helping you manage your own content of your site without getting a Master's Degree in Programming or becoming a part of a nerd community.

During August of 2009, I had the great opportunity to work on a design makeover with Layers Magazine. This section of the magazine, takes 3 designers from around the country to work on a real client's project.
